GOCA MEDIA LIBRARY
Sponsored by RealView TV
Welcome to the GOCA Media Library
Thank you for visiting the GOCA Media Library - a community outreach program. Here you will find a complete resource library of video for those touched by cancer; facts and updates on Ovarian Cancer, valuable information on trends and treatments, alternative therapies, nutrition, and the needed resources available to women, their families and caregivers. These are stories of courage and support. Additional videos will be added throughout the year.
GOCA wishes to extend thanks and gratitude to Tom Burke, director, cameraman and film editor extraordinaire without which the Media Library would not have gotten off the ground. Tom has been instrumental in this program and on behalf of everyone who has had the opportunity to view these videos and be a part of this project, we say THANKS!

FAMILY AND CAREGIVERS DIRECTORY
The videos in this directory will focus on both physical and emotional intimacy issues from the patient and husband/partner viewpoints, as well as the changing dynamics of the family when a member is diagnosed with cancer. Topics include understanding the emotions and expectations of the patient, taking on the role of caregiver, the impact on children, the impact of changing dynamics on self image, family and marriage; and the emotions and expectations of extended family and support network.
SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE
This directory contains various topics discussed with experts in the fields of oncology, psychological and oncology social work fields, survivors and family members. Topics include dealing with reoccurrence, the initial reaction to dealing with a cancer diagnosis, a woman’s changing sense of self image, and integrating a cancer diagnosis into your life.
PSA’s
Women in Film Atlanta Produces PSA Campaign for Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance
In the summer/fall of 2007, WIFTA produced a Public Service Announcement campaign for the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance. The three spot campaign centered on GOCA’s mission, “Awareness. Knowledge. Action.” The PSA’s focused on real people whose lives were touched by ovarian cancer in some way, whether they were survivors, family members, or medical experts. GOCA’s mission is to make the public more aware of this often misunderstood and rarely discussed disease. The slogan of the campaign was “Ovarian cancer isn’t silent, it whispers. Are you listening?”
Widdi Turner, Vice President of Professional Development for WIFTA spearheaded the campaign. Georgia Tanner, director of WIFTA’s 2006 Emmy Award-winning PSA, served as creative consultant on this project and collaborated with GOCA Executive Director Nancy Noto on the concept for the campaign. After a call for submissions in June, three directors were selected for the project: Shandra McDonald-Bradford, Shani Harris Peterson, and Stacey Childers Fitzgerald. Their producers were Melanie Bugg, Sherri Daye Scott, and Anna Krantz, respectively. Also brought on board were associate directors Allison Shok and Crystle Clear Roberson who worked under the directors in a mentor relationship, and Angela Barnes Gomes who served as AD for all three shoots. These spots were produced and crewed by over 50 volunteers who generously gave their time and talents to work on this invaluable cause. The campaign could not have been done without them and the generosity of our PSA sponsors listed below.
Production began in August and the spots were completed in October.
This is a tremendous and otherwise unattainable way to truly get the mission of GOCA out in front of everyone!
GOCA would like to say a special thanks to the following for taking time out of their weekend schedules to be a part of this amazing moment for GOCA. You should all take great pride in your efforts. I know it was not easy. But they will take your breath away...

SURVIVOR STORIES
On November 10, 2007, six ovarian cancer survivors, ages 14 to 50+ got together to share their experiences for this library. While there was a common thread amongst them all, their individual journeys are nothing but unique. Hear about their diagnosis- when they were diagnosed, how often they were misdiagnosed, where they were in their life, how long they have been survivors, as well as the reality about chemo, alternative therapies they tried and how this journey affected not just their lives, but their families. We want to share their realities of hope with you.
