GOCA Media Library

GOCA considers this path to community outreach a vital part to the education and awareness of Ovarian Cancer as well as the many topics that cross over to all cancers. This program will ultimately provide an extensive resource and educational library via video; a complete video library available to the entire cancer community- women and their family's and caregivers that will include videos on basic Ovarian Cancer facts and symptoms, public service announcements, tutorials on current chemotherapies,  integrative medicines, trends and treatments, and the needed resources available to women, their families and caregivers, and stories of courage and support as well as discussions on OC research in a very friendly format, and interviews with Survivors, family members and caregivers. Participants may include those affected by ovarian cancer and other cancers and persons from various roles in the medical and wellness communities.

To use video as a Community Outreach and Education tool is something that is not readily available to those diagnosed and touched by cancer.  While there are widespread resources and several websites that you can hunt through there is not another “library” like ours that will provide a decent place to start for women diagnosed and the family, caregivers, and extended support system.

Bag of Hope

The Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance provides the Bag of Hope to newly diagnosed ovarian cancer patients letting them know they are not alone on this journey. The Bag of Hope has been created in response to the expressed need, by women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, to have both readily available and reliable information on ovarian cancer resources, treatment and support. The contents of the Bag of Hope fulfill the initial need to become educated about the diagnosis and where to turn for help.

Survivors Teaching Students

Survivors Teaching Students is an innovative and critical national effort to educate students in health professional programs on ovarian cancer.  Our goal is to increase the number of health care providers who recognize the symptoms and risk factors for ovarian cancer so that the disease is detected earlier.

We are in a unique position to help students to become more sensitive to the symptoms of and risk factors for ovarian cancer so that when they become diagnosticians they can diagnose women early and save lives.

The majority of ovarian cancer cases are not diagnosed until the disease is advanced and women's survival is compromised.  The symptoms may not be recognized early enough and too often women who are at high-risk are not identified or monitored.

Survivors Teaching Students: Saving Women' Lives, brings the faces and voices of ovarian cancer survivors into the classrooms of health professional students to teach them about women's experiences with the disease.

Community Outreach
Know the Facts (KTF)

A component of the Awareness.Knowledge.Action campaign, these include speaking engagements and dissemination of GOCA collateral for at-risk and female populations via health fairs and community events. This presentation steps into the community to outline the facts about ovarian cancer, signs and symptoms, and inform women of the importance in knowing your body and taking action that leads to early diagnosis.
