History

In 1998, a group of Atlanta women who were ovarian cancer survivors founded the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance.  They originally met each other at the St. Joseph Hospital's Gynecological Cancer Support Group and began pooling their energies and passion.  The intention of the founders was to alert and educate Georgia's women and their health care providers about the risks, symptoms, and treatment of ovarian cancer.

This still remains very much the focus of GOCA today!

Since then, GOCA has transformed from an idea hatched at a founder's dining room table, to a very strong, community led non-profit organization led by those touched by ovarian cancer in some way.  With a strong base of supporters, volunteers and staff, we have reached over 45,000 women with our life saving messages.

But there is more work to be done.  GOCA plans to strengthen and expand its programs and outreach to newly diagnosed women and their families, additional high risk groups and health care professionals.
