Bag of Hope
The Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance Bag of Hope is one of GOCA’s premiere community outreach programs. It was designed by, and is continually reviewed by ovarian cancer patients and healthcare professionals to ensure the bag contents meet the needs of the ovarian cancer patient.
The Bag of Hope is given to newly-diagnosed ovarian cancer patients, to let them know they are not alone on their journey. GOCA created this program in response to needs expressed by women diagnosed with gynecological cancer to have readily available, reliable information on cancer resources, treatment and support while providing comfort and hope.
Recipients receive a compilation of helpful cancer resources such as information on chemotherapy side effects, talking to your family and where to go for non-medical support. In addition to knowledge, the Bag of Hope also prepares cancer patients for the rigors of chemotherapy with information of possible side effects and how to strategically combat them.
Newly diagnosed women are provided with gifts to encourage comfort and a positive attitude towards fighting cancer that include:
- Monogrammed Bag
- GOCA hat
- Handmade knit cap
- Lightweight fleece blanket
- Pair of GOCA teal booties
- Writing journal and pen
- GOCA water bottle
- Survivor DVD
- Information sheets/CD
- Cancer Survival Toolbox
